Default GPP for Squash or fast paced sports

I am having trouble getting fit for fast paced sports such as squash or sparring due to high muscle mass. This seems to require excessive energy to move quickly for longer periods.

Does anyone have any good advice on GPP where you can get the fitness and speed without losing too much muscle??
