This is exactly the reason I started teaching people to use a hook grip when they're using straps. Closes the gap fairly well, and you still get the benefits.
I agree with the strength work prescribed. As mentioned, try warming up with no hook grip and maintain relaxed arms. Go as heavy as you can until you start noticing/feeling your arms bend. Also, snatch grip deads/pulls with hook grip, no straps will help also.
