Default Too late to dream?

Is it too late (at 22) to make the olympics as a 100m sprinter?

I havent played any running sports for 6 years or even sprinted lol. I was boxing (at a boxing gym) for a 3 month stretch and Im still training as best I can (3 months at home), I cant afford the gym. The distance running got my love for running back. I can currently run 100m at 11.07. Its not exactly 100m its likely off about 10ft (longer probably). I'll get to a real track and re-test.

In school (before I quit at 16) coaches where always complementing me on my speed and trying to recruit me on football teams. I went to 1 practice and quit, I was sore for a week. I bet my 100m time then was in the 10 second area. Im 200 times more disciplined now thanks too my training as a boxer.

With my natural speed and the fact that Im really raw as a sprinter do you think its possible to get to the low 10 second or maybe lower before I start losing potential because of age?

Ive also got chicken legs lol so theres alot of room for strength improvements.

Im 5'10" 155lbs at approximately 10% bodyfat. I just thought I should throw that out there too.

Usain Bolt, current record holder, is 22. Asafa Powell, previous record holder set the record at 23 and held it till age 26. Tim Montgomery set the record at age 27.

No, it's not too late. But to run those kind of times, you're going to need a coach. Those guys don't train themselves. You have 4 years to train for it though as it's too late to make it this year. You'll be 26 when the next Summer Games rolls around.

Age is not a factor...just your speed. I can't think of anything more in line with the spirit of the Olympics....amateurs trying to do their best. Anything is possible...only you can tell you otherwise. Wouldn't quit the day job in the process but no harm comes from trying.

Great. I'll be training myself over the summer, I have no choice there. When college starts I'll join the track team. I'll try to get my time down at least a fifth of a second by then (september). I think I'll start a workout log here.

Does anybody have any good sprint training sites?

I've done some of my own research and theres one thing thats confusing me...I keep reading "do 2-3 sets of 3 reps of 60m sprints" hows that supposed to work? short rest between reps and a long one between sets?

Lots of rest between sets (like 5 mins minumum probably closer to 10 or even 15 depending on what you're doing). You don't want to work metabolic AT ALL.

Some plyo work would also be good. After ~5 strides per sec which is easy to hit (maximum human capacity) the way to get faster is to increase stride length.

I assume your technique is fairly strong as well...
