Default Zone and Recovery

Hi all.

So, after dabbling for a while Paleo/If, I've decided to give ZONE/Paleo+dairy a try for a while. So far I like it! I've moved from about 1g of protein per body weight (165 grams), down to down to (112) or 16 blocks. I've notice more strength, stamina, and mental clarity. However, I'm sore as hell!! There was a point when the main site WOD's were making me mildly sore, but recently it feels like I'm working out for the first time. So, my question is, is it the lack of protein that's causing the decrease in recovery, or is it the greater intensity with which I've been lifting?

How's your sleep and stress levels?

Could definitely be lack of cals or transition as your body switches its metabolism though. Might wanna back off intensity for a bit and then reramp back into it as your body adjusts more if that's the case.

Actually...my sleep has sucked recently and my stress is through the roof (full time teacher plus grad student!) hmmmm

Those, and the lack of carbs.

If you were like me before I switched to zone, my body was getting used to the lack of carbs. Itll take a little time for your body to get used to the high amount of protein and fat thats in Zone. (this is all if you were eating like the average american, its okay, we all did)

You can try upping the fat to increase the calories a little. Zone seems to really limit calories, especially if youre higher in bf (>30). Drink your WHOLE milk, I think I saw you post about this in another post, PWO and eat your meal afterwards. I usually wait till I get hungry, an hour or two later.

Youll adapt. Just tough it out.

Wait, wait, wait. Are you aiming for a performance boost? Or are you mainly dialing in body composition?

If you're Zoning and can stand to lean out, don't mess with it.

Sorry to disagree with Mr. Yeung (I like your posts my friend), but whole milk PWO isn't necessarily the greatest choice. You don't need fat PWO. If you've got a problem with gastric emptying to the point that you're still not managing insulin, then a little fat's fine... otherwise, protein and carbs, make up the fat blocks at the second PWO feeding and/or at other meals in the day.

Give your body time to adjust.
And if you don't think kettleball squat cleans are difficult, I say, step up to the med-ball

I think like Derek said, it really depends on your goals. Trying to gain muscle, lost fat and increase lifts? Sign me up!

Its a lot to try and get maximum benefits for them all at once.

Milks got some fat, some protein, some carbs in a very useable convient form, and hydrates you better than water. Of course, everyone's got their own opinions, and honestly, the same thing dosent work for everyone.

Whatcha eating PWO Derek? I used to eat like... A piece of fruit and some cottage cheese? The more and more Ive been readin about milk, the more I like it.

And, were allowed to disagree, its a forum. I dont think ive learned anywhere near as much from reading than I ever have from debates/discussions.
