Default Coffee and insulin sensitivity

Does coffee increase or decrease insulin sensitivity? I've heard both.

Here is some Orwellian Newspeak: it can cause both! Research tends to verify this but our clinical experience points towards caffeine being problematic for the obese, particularly if they are sedentary. As an individual becomes more active caffeine seems to enhance insulin sensitivity and lipolysis...up to a point! Like anything else the dose/response curve of caffeine can vary from person to person and there is certainly a therapeutic window. Other confounders can include adrenal cortical hyperactivity that can occur in hyperinsulinemia.
