I was aware of the nitrogen sparing effect of a high fat diet. I was just pointing out that the Zone is a good example of a calorically restrictive diet being detrimental to muscle maintenance/gain and in turn performance unless the fat is bumped up.
I'm intrigued by the 800 calorie/day subjects. I wouldn't want to do that and that much protein with little else may not be the best idea for any serious length of time... but still, I'm intrigued.
