Some love for TMA
Nobody gives a damn about traditional martial arts anymore, but this Sanchin test is still cool.

Much love for Uechi Ryu. The hard body conditioning they are doing in that video sucks. One of my best friends is a second dan and every time we get together he wants to do that crap.
Needless to say I am always sore for a week after.

Have you seen the Dragonball trailer?
It makes me weep.

This explains it well.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanchin
I have not performed or taught this form, but I have done similar things, several of them involving a shinai. The biggest benefit I got was the ability to eliminate distractions (in the form of physical trauma) while remaining focused on my own techniques.

Thanks for posting that.
That's about what my sanchin test in Shorin-ryu was like. In my instructor's garage, with him and his buddy (a Chito-ryu instructor) walking around, tugging on limbs, kicking and punching, occasionally mocking and tsk-tsking. It was hard, but since we did lots of hard-contact sparring it wasn't that scary to do. It just took some concentration so I'd remember all the steps.
The version of sanchin we did had closed fists to Uechi-ryu's spear hand strikes, though. Otherwise, it looked about the same. Fun kata to practice.
