I'm curious about this too. I understand that grains in general are unhealthy, but white vs wheat, which is the better choice if I'm going to indulge?

Is it possible that white could be "better" due to removal of more of the grain? While you'll get a bigger insulin response, you'll also get fewer antinutrients and such? I think I remember Robb making this point at some time. Whole wheat flour vs. white flour...one is only better in the same sense that 1 pack of cigarettes per day is better than 2.

quoting a fabulous friend, "Gluten is DEATH".

Try gluten free pancakes! you can buy the mix at Trader Joes, and with blueberries, butter and syrup, you can hardly tell the difference. Then you won't have to decide on which is worse of the two bad things!

Personally I'd forgo both breads and go with the chocolate cake we had last time I was in Boston. Then wash it down with some mead. Mmmmmmm MEAD (various Homer Simpson noises)

I had gluten free cookies a couple weeks back and was quite surprised by the absolute deliciousness to which you speak of. I'll have to get the pancakes next time I go shopping at TJs, but replace the blueberries with chocolate chips. BTW there apple wood bacon is the greatest thing I have ever tasted.

As we all know white flour is absolut crap.

In addition packaged whole wheat flour has been stripped of many of its nutrients and especially the oil in the kernels.

I believe if you are going to use flour products at all you need to really grind the wheat berries yourselves and make the pancakes from that flour. That would be your best bet for health.

Default sugar is sugar is sugar is....

Sugar is sugar is sugar. Do you want your sugar in a grunge brown wrapper? Or a nice shiny white wrapper? Style choice. Your still releasing just as much sugar into your system.

I'd just say, "No thank you!"
