Default GPP for Sprinting

Is it really necessary to include extra condtioning work for pure sprinters for the sake of shedding extra body fat or will speed training and diet take care of that?

Not its not necessary and yup their training and diet will take care of it. Tyson Gay and Usain Bolt don't need CrossFit.

GPP work in all likelyhood will probably slow you down...

Diet for body composition.

Not very many people are training like Barry Ross(not to say that he isn't right). Most sprinters do put in some volume & over distance training... over the training year they move from general to specific. Also any type of wt room work is by definition GPP so yes sprinters need GPP.

Weight room work is defined by what you are doing in said room. Not all of it is good for sprinters. I'd think sprinters would benefit a lot more from doing some power cleans or things that mimic running power type movements and developing power out of the blocks than from doing numerous types of set/rep schemes for time.
