IMO, the asics mentioned would be a good choice, so would the adidas sambas, nike free if you want to go with a sneaker show that can double as a everyday shoe.

well none of those links lead me to anything specific you might be looking at. The powerlifters told me they use chucks because the soles didnt give there were solid. same with the work boots, also the work boots have a bit of a heel wich leads you to the same thing that weightlifting shoes do, just not as specificly designed. the never used any crosstraining shoes, basketball, or any type of shoe that had a soft heel that would give for deadlifting, squating or just about anything. they would use the crosstrainers if they ever did any form of cardio (wich was rare lol). I use weightlifting shoes but I train for weightlifting, other than that a good ole pair of black chucks is what I would use.
I mean the style and all is really up to you... if your going to use them for heavy lifting type of things then you just dont want it to have a give. so solid sole shoes. if your going to use it for running or other things like that then yes you want some cushion, but if squatting and pulling weights is your goal I say solid sole is the only way to go.
