Sydney Olympics - Andrei Chemerkin comes that close to cleaning 600ibs.

What do you guys think will come first, a 500ibs snatch or a 600ibs clean and jerk?

That wasnt so much inspiring as it was soul crushingly depressing. I was really pulling for him to lift the weight.

And a 600lb cj is definitely coming before a 500lb sn. No doubt in my mind. People were attempting weight close to 600lb for a while now in the cj, but i dont think many are very close to a 500lb sn.

Yeah that's right. Although with the new drug testing methods we may never see either one. Antonio Krastev tried 500ibs in training but missed it. The most he did in training was 222.5.. His competition best was 216kg, he later tried 220 but missed it. In 1987 at the WWC. It simply astounds me how anyone can have the courage to even attempt to put such weights over their head. Could you imagine dislocating an elbow with nearly 500ibs over your skull?

ah man I get all excited when I see vids like this and it's sad to see the attempts missed.

yeah even watching them miss, but even trying the weight makes me a little pumped up. I like to watch Steiner nail the 258kg clean and jerk for the gold though to get really pumped up, that guy just goes nuts after he nails it.

Whats funny is I've watched enough video of people doing these, I can even tell why the heavy-weights miss their lifts. He ran in way too excited and forgot his fundamentals.

Yeah, that bar got really far away from him on the 2nd/3rd pull BUT he pulled it high enough to rack it if it were close enough to him. To me, the scary thing is he made that pull look really easy.
