predicting that he would never lift 100lb seems kinda arbitrary to me

Keep in mind how often doctors deal with the average patient that isn't accustomed to having to work for anything.

Plus, there was likely a healthy dose of tricking the guy into thinking "oh yeah? we'll see about that"
