Default How to deal with hands....

How do we deal with this?

15 minutes behind a bar doing snatches and my hands are cooked.

My hands did the same for a little while when I first startd spending a lot of time OLY lifting. However, due to my time on rings and a barbell and on a pull up bar they have gotten pretty hard in the palm. I have also used in between my knuckles to prevent some tear. Chalk, chalk, chalk.

Long term, you need to keep you calluses smooth with fine grit sandpaper - the rough edges are usually what tear. Also use straps when your hands are particularly beat up to try to avoid actually tearing. Use Corn Huskers lotion throughout the day, especially right after training (wash your hands well first) and before bed.

Short term, smooth out the rough edge on that big one. You can get some benzoin tincture to put on the raw area and then make a tape guard to cover it while it heals.

Sounds like I'm on the right path. If this happens I will trim off as much excess as I can. I do sand and file as much as I can; I'm lifting almost every day so it's difficult to keep up.

I'm a long time lover of Bag Balm & Badgerbalm. This is the first winter I haven't had cracked skin on my knuckles.

I'm off to get some benzoin tincture... and another box of tape.
