Iron Loss When Donating Plasma?
Hi,
I have read good things about donating blood, specifically regarding keeping iron levels in check. While I do donate blood semi-regularly (3-4 times a year), I donate blood plasma much more frequently, sometimes as frequently as twice per week.
I wonder if plasma donation has the same iron-moderating benefits as whole serum donation? I would reason so, due to the notion that ferritin proteins, which store the bulk of the free iron in the blood, reside in the plasma, not red blood cells.
So, I would think that bleeding plasma, for this purpose, is the same as bleeding whole. What do you guys think?
