Paleo/Lights Out and seasonal food

Would some hunter gatherers have lived in a tropical climate? If so, they would have had tropical fruit, veg and honey all year round and almost the same amount of sunlight all year round, correct? Does it matter?

Even in tropical climates, there are fruiting and flowering seasons for the local vegetation. They probably would have had more sunlight year round though.

How do you determine what's seasonal? Just shop at farmers markets and see what they are currently selling? Hard to separate what I want and what's seasonal when I walk into Whole Foods/TJs/etc

In my opinion there is no one paleo/hunter gather diet and people would have to eat what was available in the area they lived, which would vary massively according to the climate and environment etc. The main point is that what was available were natural nutrient rich unprocessed foods. Remember that what may be a tropical area today may well not have been many years ago. Was this diet optimum for their health/longevity is the question that you need to ask, along with what else they were eating with the foods that you mention i.e. meats/protein sources and fats etc.

The issue with light is from artificial light not natural sun light, which in my opinion would have been an advantage not a disadvantage. Their sleep cycles would just naturally follow.

Ari, I shop at the farmer's market, which lets me know what's seasonal for my area (Kentucky). Obviously the farmers can't grow what's not in season. Mark also makes a good point...seasonal eating is great as it gives you variety, but so long as you're sticking to the produce section, you will have difficulty going wrong.
