Interesting article Steve...I'm surprised that the ADA recommends what it does thought I guess I really shouldn't be.

I'm not really surprised at all.
Reading the Eades piece in this month's PM mentions pretty much the same thing.

My favorite quotes:
Quote:
|
"We're not saying it's okay for people with diabetes to eat lots of sweets," says Franz. "But they deserve the right to eat all types of carbohydrates, just like any other person."
|
The "right" to eat sweets? Everybody has that right. It's a matter of exercising it, and I would venture that most with Type II have exercised that right far more than those without. It reminds me of the guys at work that jump my case for not indulging in the mounds of chocolate that they make disappear..."Lighten up man! You can eat anything you want...look at how in-shape you are!" People never put 2 and 2 together and say "He doesn't eat loads of sugar. He is in-shape. I bet there's a correlation."

And this may be why more physicians don't advocate the approach, even though many follow it themselves: A University of Pennsylvania study reports that doctors prescribe a low-fat diet to their patients 67 percent of the time, yet when it comes to their own diet, they more often go low-carbohydrate.
|
Why are doctors not presenting the whole picture to people?

I was thinking it would be nice to have a shirt that said
"Fat is not a 4-letter word".
Of course people would think I was avocating that it was okay for people to be 'Fat' (or that I preferred big woman porn. . . eww).
I vote that we try and get an interview with Dr. Vernon in a PMenu in the future.
That aside. . . am I the only one totally blown away that Men's Health has such an awesome article! I hope this is a good indicator of the future of popular culture.

A lot of the Men's Health kind of editors and writers are now reading sites like this one, like Crossfit, like T-mag.
Lou Schuler's one of them, but there are many more.

NewScientist had a piece about 6 years ago that made the point the government must make a slow shift in it's policy lest it find itself at the center of a class action law suit. That would be spectacular.
