Do any of you have an ice bath that you keep around or is it just a bathtub full of water and drain it when you are done? Horse trough would be the perfect plan, but I have take what I can get and my wife won't buy into it. She is letting the beer kegs and big tires stay so I best not push my luck. If you were to go a trash can what size? It looks like 55 gallon. I am 5'10" 200#. Any ideas would be cool, but I suspect it is as simple as it seems.
I use the bath tub. After a really long ride or long day playing sports I will throw about 25lbs of ice in the tub and fill with water. I try to get the water to around 55F and stay in there for 15-20 minutes for so. I find that it really helps after total exertion activities that last hours.
Bathtub full of cold water, then add ice--I've been using 35-45#. Stay in there about 20 minutes (though I've heard as low as 12 is sufficient). Acclimation is easier if you get in the cold water and then add the ice on top of yourself.
About an hour afterwards I follow up with contrast showers or a warm shower as I heard that will help your muscles not cramp up from the bath.
