Default Quality Supplements

I've been looking into higher quality supplements in specific areas that a lot of people miss (i.e. antioxidants, trace minerals, etc.), and I found these two sites through naturalnews.com (http://www.naturalnews.com/024076_he...utrition.html).

I'm especially interested in the "Athletic Performance Pak" on Baseline Nutrition, but I am always in hearing other's people's thoughts on this subject as I believe we, and when I say we I say that for those who lead very active lifestyles and/or are heavily involved in a particular sport, have deficiencies that a healthy diet can not cover, at the very least from a standpoint of athletic performance/potential/recovery. Just my thoughts, but I always to learn by reading and hearing other people's beliefs on the subject

Some time ago Robb turned me on to iherb.com and I began using this one: http://www.iherb.com/Super-Nutrition...Each/3234?at=0

Since each pack of vitamins contains 3 doses to be taken each day, and I don't care to do this, I spread them out more so the packs actually last me longer than the 30 days.

I also use fish oil caps, additional vit d and a probiotic.

Here's the product info:

Nutrient Sources Are Clinically Hypo-Allergenic

Opti-Energy Packs contain vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other natural body-chemistry nutrient molecules.

* The nutrient molecules in Opti-Energy Packs are identical to those in fruits and vegetables.
* They come from a variety of sources but do not include sources that commonly cause allergies.

Important! If this is your first time taking the Opti-Energy Pack, please read!

About the Niacin Skin Flush-Safe, Beneficial & Invigorating

SuperNutrition uses Niacin rather than niacinamide because it is the more active form of Vitamin B3 and provides nutritional benefits not available from Niacinamide, including a possible "Niacin flush." The Niacin flush represents increased blood flow, which in turn carries more nutrients and oxygen directly to the cells in your body. This Niacin flush may result in a warm to hot, reddening, sometimes itchy tingling of the skin. It can last from 15 minutes to one hour or more and may be followed by a slight passing chill. In very rare cases, the Niacin flush may result in a rash.

The Niacin Skin Flush

To help reduce the Niacin flush, SuperNutrition uses an exclusive Two-Stage Fast Release for the Niacin in the Opti-Energy Pack. With this method, unless more than one brown multi-vitamin tablet is taken at once, fewer people flush. Yet, even without a flush, you still get the benefits of the Niacin form of Vitamin B3.

Notice About Vitamin E

Although there are few, if any, reports of problems, people with high blood pressure, rheumatic heart disease, diabetes or overactive thyroid should always consult their physicians before increasing their Vitamin E, and should always increase it slowly and carefully.

Premature Aging

Some premature aging may be accelerated by nutritional deficiencies. Some kinds of stress may deplete nutrients. The orthomolecular potency of the Opti-Energy Pack is designed and biochemically-balanced to help reduce the possibility of premature aging from nutritional deficiencies and lifestyle stresses that may deplete nutrients and accelerate premature aging.

The Opti-Energy Pack is also designed to nutritionally support optimal health, strength, energy and well-being for everyone, including:

* Men and women of all ages
* People with high-stress lifestyles
* People with high energy needs.

Nutrient Protection

Some nutrients are specially coated to protect against ingredient interaction in the tablet and to ensure full label potency.

Opti-Energy Pack-There's More In It!

The blend of nutrients and scientifically proven potencies in the Opti-Energy Pack reduces the need to buy additional vitamins or minerals and take extra tablets. For example, in the daily dose of 6 tablets you get 1250 mg of Calcium, 1000 IU of Vitamin D3 and 700 mg of Magnesium for bone health. There's also 800 IU of Vitamin E, 1000 mcg of Folic Acid and 250 mcg of Selenium for heart health, plus a full 1200 mg of Vitamin C and 300 mcg of Chromium.

These same 6 tablets provide higher potencies of Beta Carotene, the B-Complex plus organic greenfoods and a high ORAC antioxidant fruit and berry blend

Fast Digesting Tablets: The Opti-Energy Pack tablets are laboratory-tested to be very fast-digesting. In normal stomach acid, the brown tablets disintegrate in fewer than 30 minutes and the gray within 30-60 minutes.
Suggested Use

A dietary supplement for men, women and teens. Each packet (6 tablets) contains: 3 brown Multi-Vitamin/Antioxidant Tablets and 3 Gray Multi-Mineral/Antioxidant Tablets

Before taking this product, please read the side panel about our Niacin skin flush.

One packet per day for full potency. To improve Calcium absorption, take your vitamins 2 to 3 times daily immediately after meals.

Adults (18 years or older)

Preferred Usage-For best absorption of nutrients and the least chance of experiencing "the Niacin skin flush."

* 1 brown tablet and 1 gray tablet after each meal, three times per day.

Alternate Usages: These options increase the chance of "the Niacin skin flush":

* 2 brown tablets and 2 gray tablets after your largest meal, and 1 brown tablet and 1 gray tablet after another meal.
* Entire packet after a full meal

Teenagers (13-14 years)

* 1 brown tablet and 1 gray tablet after a full breakfast or lunch.

Teenagers (15-17 years)

* 1 brown and 1 gray tablet after a full breakfast and again after lunch.

Note 1: The brown tablets contain Niacin, therefore taking more than one brown tablet at a time increases the chance of "the Niacin skin flush."

Note 2: The gray tablets contain Calcium. You can improve Calcium absorption up to 30% by dividing your tablets between 2 to 3 meals per day.

I also stumbled upon Proteinfactory.com and made two mixes I was hoping people could comment on:

1) General Protein - Membrane Micellar Casein (30%), Super Plasma Protein (30%), Tri-Fx (Whey Fraction) (30%). I especially like the membrane one becuase it comes from grass fed cattle. Also mixed in some vit + min and aminogen and microlactin

2) Pre Workout Supplement - Rice Oligodextrin (30%), Rice Syrup w/Electrolytes (30%), and BCAAS (40%). also mixed in some peak ATP and peptides.

I also like the Omega Muscle Mix for its EPA/DHA content (450/300 respectively)

Thoughts?

Just do these shakes if you feel the need. I prefer them lately as I stress out a lot and tend to lose a lot of weight when I do... these help to keep the weight on me.

I definitely wouldnt go for that baseline nutrition pack, even if i had 250 bucks to waste! Fungal Pancreatin anyone? I wish i had the balls(gaul??)to sell lake/sea water for this kind of markup! Lake waters all very natural, but they admin it contains lead, aluminium, both are toxic.
Notice how there 'reserve' super foods top 7 ingredients are cheap crap like wheat, rice, peas, bamboo(WTF?!) and flax(ok but cheaper elsewhere).

The vits that Frank is pimping is probably better value.

I take(from i herb) source naturals life force multi, not perfect but its on 26 bucks and only take 1-2 a day to avoid 24hr luminous yellow pee.

I see your point. That 250 price tag just seemed like way too much for the little they give you. While I don't mind spending this much if its for health and athletic performance, it does seem a little fishy. I'll take a look at iherb to find a good multi, fish oil, and ZMA.

Yeah, all I take is fish oil, ZMA and multi PLUS vitamin D.

Anything that makes you sleep more is probably the best "performance and recovery" supplement you need (hence why people love ZMA).

Other than that....spend your money on real foods (eat more oily fish and you don't need the oil), get some sunshine for free (and your Vit D), do more relaxing activities and you won't need to spend much more on additional supplements (other maybe than some BCAAs around training time).

That and most pills out there may just end up leaving you with pee worth $250+ per month.
