smarter view on powerlifting training
Hello,
I'm a young powerlifting trainer from Italy.
I've always followed "olympic weightlifting" ideas, phylosophy, in training my athlets.
Many many sets,
high frequency fondamental lifts training,
always fast lifts,
and (most important things) a lot of attention on technique. Body control, perfect motor unit attivation. Looking at this parameters is quite clear I'm a Boris Sheiko lover.
Question:
after our next meet i'd like to put on a training plan based on "Hormonal Fluctuation Method" exposed by Kilgore and Rippetoe in their book, wich I cant remember the name, but I can assure is the best English language book on weight training.
Any ideas? thank you

Oh yes, I know you,
right now I answered a lifter by e mail who asked me "Shell I add some Pendlay row?"
I appreciate your work.
Any other ideas/experience is well accepted.

how does applying weightlifting principles to powerlifting work out for you? Not too many PL's I have seen in the states (that I know) follow that type of training (especially the high load of lifting). I know a few elite PL's who practice the less is more theory and I am curious to know how this works out for you.
Thanks.

Jay,
Sheiko type training works. Also see the Smolov Squat Cycle. And the Korte 3x3 program.
All of these rely on high frequency and high loading of the competition lifts (in Smolov's case, just the squat). They are all also known to produce results. Sheiko is used by Wade Hooper, for instance, and others. Korte was used by... Korte. And Smolov is used by tons of people. The problem with these programs can be the time requirement per workout. Sheiko workouts can last up to 2 hours..
Sorry, didn't mean to jack the thread. Also, the book you're referring to Ado is Practical Programming for Strength Training.

I've always been interested in Sheiko. I wish someone would come out with a better translation of their book.

Thanks, just not all that experienced with powerlifting as a sport as per training. I always trained athletes/average joes and I didn't specialize in powerlifting.
Yes, I have used the Smolov SC before, solid stuff.

Very easy: i find it the best way to be competitive. In USA powerlifting is much more related to bodybuilding (try to understand me), starting from Simmons theory.
In fact when in front of international lifters the differences comes out, in terms of, strength, speed, power and technique. Today lifters coach by formers weightlifting coach are far haed of any other in powerlifting world championship.
