Default Olympic weightlifter gives birth while training.

An Olympic weightlifter experienced a huge shock while practising for an event when she unexpectedly gave birth to a baby boy.

Chilean Elizabeth Poblete, who competed at the Beijing Olympics, was training in Sao Paulo, Brazil ahead of a meet when the baby boy was born.

Poblete said she had no idea she was pregnant although she did admit to feeling unwell at practice a week before the birth.

The child was born at six months gestation and remains in critical condition. It weighed just 2.25 pounds and measured only 15 inches at birth. The boy is currently on a respirator.

However, Poblete has since left the hospital where the baby is being treated after claiming she does not have the funds to continue medical care for her and her baby.

The hospital denies it discharged the 22-year-old because she failed to pay her bill.

The Chilean finished 12th in the 69-75kg category at the 2008 Olympics.

I'd bet Chek would say the problem arose from her weak pelvic floor muscles...

Seriously, things like this make me wonder about how much top-level (note I avoided "elite" ) athletes actually tune out or ignore signals their bodies send to them, simply in order to continue pushing themselves as they deem necessary to be competitive.

Her body was IMO under A LOT of stress to try delivering at 6 months gestation...

No idea she was pregnant at 6 months? "No coach, I'm just on a mass gain cycle..." I wonder if it popped out mid-lift, I've heard stories of people losing control of their bowels during heavy front squats, could be the same kind of thing.

I've seen that show "I didn't know I was pregnant" and its usually a very overweight woman, but this takes the cake.

And something very similar to CrossFit: http://i.imgur.com/3DdGA.jpg

At her size, I could almost understand how she might not have thought she was pregnant.

Still, sounds skeptical to me. No period for 6 months?
