Default Dan John On Hypertrophy

Just watched his video on Pmenu's blog page. I found that rather interesting as I have always viewed training priorities as building strength first , and hypertrophy as a result, but not the goal. No disrespect to Dan John though. Does anyone else have any insight into this?

DJ was talking about training in the context of the age of the athlete. He goes more into this on the Iron Radio podcast.

My take, as we get older, we lose muscle mass. Our priority should shift to a focus on hypertrophy to counter this. If you are not over 40, this probably does not apply to you.

Yes, Dan, as a successful comeptitor in his 50s, talks about that alot. Makes sense if you want to flip a cabe at 60yrs old.
Mass will also be a vital goal for people in sports like football, which he has successfully coached.
