Can anyone tell me what type of shoes the guy in the picture is wearing? Are they lifting shoes? Can't really tell and have always wondered every time I see his picture.

EF - yes those are lifting shoes. enlarge the pic and you can see the raised heel.

Matt - Usually give yourself 3 attempts at a weight before you move on. Sometimes when you're feeling bad, you can push through and lift better than you expect, so you don't want to cut it off prematurely; but if you're really not feeling it, don't push yourself to the point of injury or grinding yourself down so hard you can't train the next day.
