Mark Rippetoe in his book "Starting Strength" advises a low-bar back squat. On your site, you describe a high-bar back squat. Could you explain which one an athlete trying to develop her or his Olympic lifting should master? Thanks for all the help. This is great stuff.

If training specifically for the Oly lifts, a high bar back squat. Rippetoe encourages low bar even for o-lifters and explains why in the new edition of starting strength. This is an ongoing argument between us that will likely never be resolved. There should be an article on it coming out in the PM in probably the May issue.

Just received my new VS Athletics weightlifting shoes today and I'm diggin' em. You can certainly feel the difference in the stability and speed from the ground. Now i need to figure out how to rid myself of the pain in my hand when i catch the bar due to a broken metacarpal a few years back.

Matt - Do some mobility work with the hand--use your other hand to move the metacarpals forward and backward. Then stick the sucker in a bucket of ice water for 5-10 minutes (pretty heinous, but it works).
