What is the rule of thumb regarding dropping/returning the bar from the overhead position to the back? I've always been concerned with that dynamic drop around the cervical vertebrae. Do I just need to man up?

Marcos - The bar needs to be brought down under control, not simply dropped. It shouldn't be coming down on the c-spine in any case. I've been meaning to do some videos on lowering the bar for the site but haven't gotten around to it yet. Bring the bar partway down under control, pop up on the toes to elevate the shoulders into the bar as it comes down the rest of the way into contact (keeping the shoulders shrugged up and back to create a muscular platform for the bar) and as it comes into contact, bend at the knees to absorb the weight. Done properly, it will be very smooth and not at all dicey.
